Blueberries May Play A Role in Lowering Risk of Dementia Later In Life

The University of Cincinnati (UC) has been researching the cognitive benefits of blueberries. Blueberries are high in anthocyanins which is what gives blueberries their dark blue color. These anthocyanins are micronutrients which provide great health benefits to humans when eating regularly.

This UC research team led a trial with a group of middle-age adults with specific health-risk characteristics and increased risk for dementia. Half of the participants consumed daily doses of blueberry powder mixed with water. The other half consumed a placebo. Throughout the research, tests were conducted measuring cognitive abilities of both groups and the group who had received the blueberry powder showed measurable cognitive improvements and also lower fasting insulin levels.

This is one of many exciting studies being done on the health benefits of blueberries. We will continue to share more findings as studies are published. One thing is certain, there are very compelling reasons to include blueberries in your daily diet!  GO BLUEBERRIES!
