Director of Sales & Business Development

Fall Creek Farm & Nursery® is the world’s leading blueberry nursery stock and genetics company. We bring the best blueberry varieties to our global customers who service the commercial and nursery markets. We have an immediate career opportunity for an experienced professional to join our team.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

This executive level position is responsible for overseeing the successful management of the revenue-producing functions of the company. The Director of Sales and Business Development reports to the CEO and supervises our sales and grower support teams. This position interfaces with Fall Creek’s global customer base and franchisees. Domestic and international travel is required.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for overseeing the successful management of the revenue-producing functions of the company which includes but is not limited to, product sales, consulting, IP revenue, and new business initiatives in domestic and international markets. Also includes the oversight of international licensees and franchisees.
  • Responsible for strategically planning, organizing, forecasting, and directing the company’s sales efforts. Ensures the successful execution of the annual marketing and sales plan. Develops and implements pricing strategies in all markets.
  • Oversees and evaluates market research and adjusts strategy to meet changing market and competitive conditions. Develops and recommends strategies to secure long-term market share. Identifies opportunities for increased product sales in new or existing geographies.
  • Develops and manages the department budgets on an annual basis and oversees monthly forecasting. Sets performance goals accordingly.
  • Collaborates department efforts with the production and inventory functions to ensure short and long term product availability for existing and new products.
  • Provides leadership to the day-to-day operations of the sales department, while maintaining focus on the Company’s strategic goals and Company culture. Establishes and implements short and long term departmental goals.
  • Coaches and develops managers and employees to improve job performance. Establishes and maintains good morale, motivation, and recognition of accomplishment in all employees.
  • Collaborates with the New Products Manager and marketing team on product launches and branding efforts.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND TRAINING:

  • Typically requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in agricultural business management, international business, marketing or related field.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of agricultural sales and management experience (ag equipment, ag supply, produce) or international experience in a growing/expanding company or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5+ years in a supervisory or management position in a sales environment with proven ability to manage, develop and mentor staff.
  • Experience with market and sales analysis, pricing, and program management.
  • Experience with sales in international operations.
  • Understanding of foreign cultures and knowledge of international travel. Willingness to travel internationally as well as domestically for up to 10 days per trip.
  • Demonstrated experience with planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Demonstrated collaboration, problem solving and negotiation skills.
  • Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Excel and Word, and familiarity with PowerPoint and databases.
  • Demonstrated track record of team work in a multicultural environment and ability to work effectively with diverse communities.
  • Must demonstrate professional and ethical business practices, adherence to company values, and a commitment to personal and professional development.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or related field.
  • Experience with new product launches or branding strategies.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • Basic understanding of intellectual property, licensing, and royalty administration.

Shipping & Receiving Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

This management position has primary responsibility for the effective operation of the shipping and receiving functions for Fall Creek Farm & Nursery.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL FIT:

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Production. Supervises the Shipping Coordinator and Shipping Assistant. Works closely with the Sales, Customer Service and Inventory teams. Collaborates with team leaders and hourly staff.

 

JOB SETTING:

Office and nursery setting. Some travel may be required.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (Other duties may be assigned)

  1. Ensures the shipment of product is performed accurately, timely, and in a cost-efficient manner.
  2. Supervises the movement of all plant materials and supplies within the nursery and to customers, outsourced partners, cold storage and other locations.
  3. Coordinates with the Customer Service team on customer needs and then executes the preparation, staging, assembly, and packaging of plant orders to be shipped.
  4. Responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of all domestic and international shipments.
  5. Negotiates transportation contracts and pricing and works closely with freight vendors. Responsible for establishing and maintaining positive and productive relationships.
  6. Initiates and follows through on special shipping requirements, processes or procedures needed for international transactions.
  7. Oversees receipt of all incoming materials and supplies to the nursery. Verifies information and coordinates with departments on the proper storage of items received.
  8. Orders and maintains tag supply for shipping and production.
  9. Oversees the timely distribution and accurate completion of all field shipping paperwork including pull slips, packing slips, UPS forms, BOLs, etc.
  10. Conducts shipping cost analysis and makes recommendations to control expenses.
  11. Provides regular assessment and forecasts of shipping activity & labor needs. Assists with budgeting and monthly forecasting.
  12. Investigates and responds to customer complaints.
  13. Develops, supports, and leads continuous improvement in shipping systems and efficiencies.
  14. Collaborates department efforts with the production and inventory functions.
  15. Schedules, prepares for and conducts shipping meetings.
  16. Responsible for supervising and developing department personnel. Performs employee evaluations in a timely manner.
  17. Ensures that the work performed is conducted in a safe, efficient manner.
  18. Oversees and maintains an efficient work force, provides necessary training, and supervises workflow.
  19. Responsible for the integrity and utilization of ABECAS for shipping and receiving.
  20. Orders and maintains the shipping supplies necessary for efficient operations.
  21. May operate forklift, pallet jack, and/or hand truck as needed.
  22. Provides back up support to the Shipping Coordinator during periods of absence.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND TRAINING:

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in business administration, operations management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years shipping or warehousing experience in a manufacturing or agricultural environment.
  • 2+ years demonstrated experience in a supervisory or management role.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and team-building skills.
  • Demonstrated collaboration, problem solving and negotiation skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively present information in formal and informal settings.
  • Requires good judgment and the ability to develop clear action plans and drive processes with many interdependencies.
  • Must have a commitment to quality. Must be results driven and customer focused.
  • Strong computer skills using Word, Excel, and Outlook. Knowledge of databases.
  • Must have effective organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated skill and experience working with people from diverse ethnic, social and economic backgrounds.
  • Requires a valid Oregon driver’s license and the ability to maintain a valid license plus an acceptable (insurable) driving record as determined by our insurance carrier.
  • Must be able to pass forklift operator requirements.
  • Assures the highest level of confidentiality on sensitive matters concerning the nursery.
