POSITION SUMMARY:
This position leads our office sales and customer service team and has primary responsibility for sales to our international and nursery customers along with supporting sales for our commercial accounts. This position will have an opportunity to lead our team and bring Fall Creek’s outstanding exclusive new varieties to home gardeners around the world, utilizing our established nursery relationships and developing new supply strategies.
ORGANIZATIONAL FIT:
Under direct supervision of the General Manager with close collaboration with the Commercial Sales Manager. Responsible for supervising and coaching our Customer Service, Order Fulfillment and Receptionist positions. Coordinates the supervision of the International Sales and Business Development position along with the General Manager. Member of the Executive Leadership Team.
JOB SETTING:
Office setting with up to 10% travel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (Other duties may be assigned)
- Primarily responsible for all nursery sales and international commercial and nursery accounts. This position will have direct responsibility for some specific accounts and manage our inside sales staff that has responsibility for other accounts.
- Develops and coaches the Customer Service, Order Fulfillment and Receptionist positions to facilitate their success and maximize their effectiveness.
- Provides input to the Executive Team on pricing and terms and conditions.
- Provides regular sales performance and forecasting reports to the Finance Dept. and the General Manager.
- Works with R&D, Business Development, and Production Dept. to develop strategic plans for nursery sector sales including existing and new varieties. Collaborates closely with the Commercial Sales Manager to produce a viable overall strategic plan including commercial and nursery sales.
- Primarily responsible for developing the department budget and operating within the approved amounts.
- Oversees the successful utilization of nursery sales software and systems to facilitate maximum efficiencies in the Department.
- Coordinates sales activities as measured against plan and is accountable for achieving those sales goals.
- Assures that proper communications are achieved with Production Manager, the Commercial Sales Manager, and other department managers.
- Provides direction for handling cases of product failure, customer complaints and problems by analyzing each situation and coordinating their resolution with the help of the production department and the Commercial Sales Manager.
- Coordinates with Finance Department for managing accounts receivable, and taking steps to resolve credit issues.
- Coordinates with the Shipping and Inventory Manager to assure plant counts are updated and accurate.
- Works closely with the Production Manager to assess opportunities for changes to the production plan and timelines to address customer demand.
- Oversees the successful execution of all advertising and marketing plans.
- Represents Fall Creek to visitors and guests and attends industry-related meetings and tradeshows.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND TRAINING
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, business, marketing or international studies or equivalent experience.
- Requires 2+ years working in the nursery industry or agricultural industry or related horticultural experience.
- Requires 2+ years of related sales management experience and 2+ years supervisory or leadership experience.
- Proven ability to plan, create, and implement successful plans and relationships.
- Superior skills in collaboration.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and experience in presentations and briefings.
- Ability and demonstrated track record in team work in a multicultural environment and ability to work effectively with diverse communities.
- Experience with market analysis, pricing, budgeting and program management.
- Strong working knowledge of Excel and Word, and familiarity with PowerPoint and any applicable software.
- Assures the highest level of confidentiality on sensitive matters concerning the nursery.
- Must demonstrate professional and ethical business practices, adherence to company values, and a commitment to personal and professional development.
